Where do you start when setting up a berry orchard?

The first decision is variety and system. Raspberry and blackberry are grown from different varieties for fresh market, freezing or processing. At setup, land drainage, row orientation, the trellis system and drip irrigation infrastructure must be built correctly from the start. In what conditions do raspberry and blackberry yield well?

These species yield well in well-drained, organically rich soils with drip irrigation and balanced nutrition. Waterlogged, airless root zones are the biggest risk. Light exposure, windbreak needs and late spring frosts must be assessed by region.
